Textiles for Fashion Designer
Inspiration was taken from the movie Black Swan as well as the Mulleavy sisters - Rodarte. I had looked at various tutus and they were all strictly black. I wanted something different, so I decided to portray the actual black swan bird on my costume. The combination of red stitches down the middle of the chest, represents the beak and various feather pieces embroidered on the bodice.

Manipulated Textiles

A series of structured textiles neck & body pieces. I have used materials such as Kente Cloth, wrapped in black wool and circular plane knitting coiled around itself.
My inspiration for this project was a Textile Artist, Janet Edmonds. If you have never seen any of her work, it is worth a look. Green, orange and yellow cord have been wrapped tightly around copper wire and bent into desired shape, to produce various structured pieces

Journeys

I used 'Time' as a theme for my journeys project and I decided to use this idea of time being ephemeral, to show how very precious it is and how it can be linked to something more definitive. I went with an idea that I felt had a lot of depth and breadth to work with. I have chosen to look at the emotional journey of grief. There are five stages of grief that people go through. Generally these are, Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. In this slide, you will see a collection of my works based around the ups and downs of grief and how I express them through mixed media.
